TIMETOWEB CMS Roles & Responsibilities

In the TIMETOWEB CMS there are three main roles, which each has its associated tasks: author, Content Master and Web Master. This individual tasks within each of the three roles may of course be split up between several people.

Author

The creation of content is the first step in the content management process - a task for the responsible authors. They can create new pages, or new versions of existing approved pages. Authors are not allowed to edit approved pages or to release pages themselves. They have to request an approval. By the Extended Author-Management is a precise access control for authors possible, whereby an easy handling for central or decentralized editorship is secured. The rights for e.g. large groups of authors or sub-groups can be limited for content, determined chapters or categories.

Content Master

Content Masters assure the quality, delegate the tasks, monitor the publishing process and check the success of the website. The Content Masters has to approve pages and is allowed to edit published pages. There are also various administrative settings within the content documents which are editable only by persons with content master rights. Furthermore, Content Masters act as first level support for the authors.

Web Master

The Web Masters are responsible for the CMS as well as the published website as an output. Web Masters possess more power (i.e. rights / access) than any other individual in the support hierarchy of the CMS. As a Web Master, being familiar with the technologies and concepts behind the TIMETOWEB CMS will allow the building of very dynamic, secure web sites.

The role of Web Master covers the following responsibilities (some of these responsibilities may be taken over by TIMETOACT or another external partner).

  • Configuration and maintenance of the CMS database
  • Assignment of access and approval rights
  • Creation and maintenance of layouts, navigation and data sources
  • Creation and maintenance of forms (e.g. contact forms) and the resulting incoming documents.
  • Provision of first level support for the authors and content masters
It is the responsibility of the Web Master to manage the navigation and templates, and consequently who has access to what, and how it looks. Authors and content masters do not have access to this functionality. These highly sensitive functions will make or break a web site, and for this reason it is not recommended that just anyone be given Web Master access.

Note that the above internal roles are completely separate from the access levels which are assigned to documents to determine which documents can be seen in the browser by particular users, e.g. Anonymous, Internet, Extranet.
