TIMETOWEB CMS Personalization

Personalization allows taking individual preferences of the web user into account.

There are two kinds of personalization, i.e. for anonymous and for authentified website users.
  • Anonymous website users will be identified with a cookie. In this case the preferences are stored locally in the computer and using another computer lets them get lost
  • Authentified website users will be identified using their login name. This means, every website user has to login first. The data can then be stored within the TIMETOWEB data base in the person document, in an existing data base with the user names (CRM,...), a directory of the server or an external data base, which is only used to store the profiles.
Most common use of personalization is within an intranet or an extranet environment, because the users have to identify themselves.

Personalized areas could be:

  • Layout
    • boxes for the margin
    • key visuals
    • fontsize
    • colors
    • representation of diagrams
    • size of columns
  • Content
    • preferences for newsareas (selection and configuration)
    • favorite lists (links)
    • link to the mailfile
    • links to other web applications in the intranet
    • content areas (Mockups)
    • individualised content (recommendations, statistics)
    • dynamic navigation
  • Content from existing data structures
    • Location Based Services (LBS) - information scaling in context to a location
    • relationsinformation (team members, co-workers)
    • knowlegebases
    • backward-channel for infrastructure information

How can such a personalization look like?

 TIMETOWEB CMS Personalization

Best practice intranet:

Every employee has to authenticate first to access the intranet website. For the first visit, fix content is supplemented by a default set of links and news items. Only a few clicks are required to personalize this selection according to personal preferences. Links are added to a favorite list. Personal news are selected and arranged within an intuitive web interface by the according category. Placement preferences and number of displayed items can also be selected.
