2nd Call for Papers + Extended Deadline: 30.10.2003:

"Mobile and Collaborative Business: Ambience"

Track on the German IS Multi-Conference MKWI 2004
March 9 - 11, 2004, Essen (Germany)

E-Business has seen continuous diversification and development over recent
years. Carefully reflecting present market trends, mobile and collaborative
systems especially are predicted to have a flourishing future. This track,
within the German IS Multi Conference on "Mobile and Collaborative Business"
, focuses on "ambience".  In the future we will see mobile and collaborative
applications closely integrated and offering highly adapted services within
each user's individual context. The variables describing a user context will
extend beyond simple time and location to encompass:  personal preferences,
pending tasks, ongoing activities and so on.  Of course, the
'role-for-the-time-being' of the user - and any corresponding organisational
context will also be relevant.

Knowledge of other users or mobile devices in the (possibly virtual)
neighbourhood, and even bits of information (post-it notes!) recorded by
digital sensors could be integrated within the concept of "ambience".

There are already many examples of useful ambient services in a variety of
areas (e.g. service & support), addressing individuals, small and medium
sized groups, and even larger communities and organisations (see Using GSM, IrDA, RFID, WLAN and, someday,
even UMTS, the technical infrastructure is already available.

The track aims to offer a description of the state of the art, business
potential and ongoing research in this dynamic field.  The Program Chairs
would especially warmly welcome original papers focussing on:  pilot
projects, prototype developments, innovative concepts for values added
services, state-of-the-art reports, empirical or theoretical work in the
field.  In addition, the call for papers extends to welcome general,
technical and/or scientific papers addressing issues of mobile and
collaborative business (see the list of subject items below - which should
not be taken to be an exhaustive but merely an indicative list).
