Dr. Ludwig Nastansky
Professor of Business Information Systems
.
Prof. Dr. Ludwig Nastansky is one of the first "Groupware" users, architects, developers, solution designers, and consultants in Europe starting with the Lotus-Notes-Rel.-1/IBM-Domino business collaboration software framework back in 1990. He is Professor emer. of Business Information Systems at the University of Paderborn, Germany, and Adjunct Prof. of Business Information Systems at the Chinese-German College (CDHK) of Tongji University (Shanghai, China). He has founded several companies centering on innovative and groundbreaking services & products which focus on people and team aspects in collaboration and process management of modern enterprise solutions. He has founded Pavosoft GmbH in 1990, one of the first companies focussing on e-Collaboration services, embedded in computer networks. After Pavosoft was acquired by Lotus Development Corporation (Cambridge/USA) in 1992, he founded Pavone AG (Paderborn) in 1994. He was Chairman of Pavone's supervisory board until 2012, the year PAVONE was acquired by a US company. He has been member of the supervisory board of Accent GmbH & Co. KG a.A. (Salzkotten, Germany) since 1996, currently being its Chairman.

His international engagements in teaching, research, publications, software development, and consulting have concentrated on technologies for creation of innovative collaborative environments and workplaces; e.g.: human workflow within business process management, integrated process and project control in collaborative solutions and social business, people driven activity and knowledge management applications, document and mail management, paperless office, mobile computing, and e-learning. Prof. Nastansky's teaching and research assignments comprise, amongst others: University of Saarbruecken (Germany), Université de Montréal (Canada), University of Paderborn (Germany), University of St. Gallen (Switzerland), and Tongji University (China). In 2008 he was awarded the "IBM Faculty Award". The innovative workflow framework, created collaboratively in his team at the University of Paderborn together with business partners in the UofPaderborn Technology Park and IT-Cluster, was licensed by IBM to some 10 million business users worldwide.

In his current working areas he has reinvigorated his inclination to modeling, system design, and system development, like he had pursued in his first academic years of Operation Research oriented teaching, research, and consulting. So he is curiously following and actively participating in the fascinating exponential growth and innovations brought by machine intelligence, especially with deep learning neural networks. In 2013/2014 he followed his wife Prof. Dr. Pei Wang-Nastansky on her journey to teaching the academic year in Tianjin (China), at the Tianjin Campus of the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University. The China-related consulting projects have intensified since 2016, the focus being on building up privately initiated higher-education infrastructures and organizations for vocational-centered education in management and technology.

In his free time Prof. Nastansky is pursuing gym activities & running; playing with Lua scripting, Torch and MATLab Deep Learning SDKs; enjoying photography and designing photo books; and traveling and consulting together with his wife.
