Summary: GCC as IBM Premier Partner
.
The Groupware Competence Center (GCC) is an IBM Premier Business Partner. GCC is part of the Department of Business Information Systems at the University of Paderborn. The department is ranked top 2 for business information systems in Germany for six years in a row. GCC has certified more than 120 students within the IBM professional certification program. As of 2005, GCC students have represented about 1% of the worldwide "IBM Certified Application Developer - Lotus Notes and Domino 6/6.5" community. Since 1991, more than 3400 students have been trained in Lotus Notes/Domino application development on the level of an IBM Certified Associate Professional. More than 9.000 students enrolled in courses that involve using groupware technologies and related applications in the field of collaborative office environments. Many of the students that create master theses and other projects at GCC won awards from various industry and non profit organizations.
.
Within the area of collaborative technologies, GCC inspired the foundation multiple spin-off companies within the area of Paderborn, some of which have been acquired by Lotus and IBM. The ideas, concepts and initial research conducted at GCC became the foundation of several popular and successful products on the base of Lotus Notes and Domino such as IBM Lotus Workflow and PAVONE Project Management. Due to innovations created at the university's Institute of Computer Science (which won the 2004 Eclipse innovation award and ranks as No. 16 in ACM's list of the world's best software engineering institutions), the International Graduate School and the Department of Business Information Systems, the town of Paderborn has developed the highest concentration of software companies within the state of Northrhine-Westfalia.
.
.
Within the past years, GCC operated several cooperation projects with multinational enterprises such as Deutsche Bank, IBM, DaimlerChrysler and others to ensure know-how transfer based on Lotus Notes/domino between the University and companies worldwide.
.
Several publications in research journals and magazines, as well as GCC speakers at national and international conferences have a strong influence on the way companies use e-collaboration technology. With it's engagement in several IBM beta and managed beta programs, and the participation at technical conferences, GCC stays at the cutting edge of technology.
.
GCC's director Prof. Ludwig Nastansky has founded two companies focussing on Lotus Technologies as GCC spin-offs. Pavosoft Inc. as one of these companies has been acquired by Lotus Development as seed for Lotus Professional Services in Europe. He is founder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Pavone AG. Prof. Nastansky is founding member of Germany's influential Lotus Notes User Group. He is Vice President of Germany's Association of University Professors of Management (VHB).
