The Project ConCord is positioned in the context of the workflow-driven business processes. The goal of this project is to develop an integrated approach as well as a prototype that can support task accomplishing as well as problem solving in the execution context of business processes by seamlessly providing context-sensitive information on the one side and interactive functions that support the personal collaboration on the other side. In details it concerns the following aspects:
  • Workflow context analysis
For the operative and administrative work which is steered by workflow management system (WfMS) the current workflow context is the very environment in which work is done. Therefore it is essential to let knowledge workers aware of the current context by pro-actively providing the appropriate meta information that characterizes the important aspects of the current workflow context, e.g. people, roles, tasks, contents and so on.
  • Integrated user interface
The analysis and the presentation of current work context are the first step but not enough to support knowledge workers to accomplish their tasks. More important is that an integrated user interface must be presented to guide knowledge workers to access to the relevant concrete knowledge objects stored in all kinds of knowledge sources, and the necessary tools that are seamlessly integrated in the work context must be available to enable knowledge worker to communicate and collaborate with the other relevant persons who have the knowledge or experiences about the current themes or problems.
  • Knowledge structuring
The basis for the integrated access to knowledge sources is the knowledge structuring, which concerns not only structuring the explicit knowledge such as documents, files etc, but also structuring the tacit knowledge such as skills, competences, experiences of knowledge workers. The critical point here is to provide mechanism that permanently maintains and guarantees a consistent knowledge structure within an organization.
  • Meta information
Meta information concerns some kinds of profiles such as user profiles and task profile that are connect with the knowledge structuring meta knowledge. While task profiles bridge over the gap between the knowledge demands in task execution and the existed knowledge resources, the user profiles enable personalization of the information supply.

The project is based on a complicated framework that includes many components. At the moment most of the technical development is finished and the project is at the phase of further development and improvement. The already achieved results in form of seamlessly with each other connected components, e.g. “Knowledge Broker”, “Knowledge Map”, “Glossary”, “Taxonomy”, “Yellow Pages”, "Team Places" and “Communities of Practice” are in correspondence with above mentioned requirements and functions.
