The BIS conference is by now a well-respected event joining international researchers to discuss the wide range of the development, implementation, application and improvement of business applications and systems. It is addressed to the scientific community, people involved in the development of business computer applications, consultants helping to properly implement computer technology and applications in the industry.

BIS 2006 will take place form May 31 to June 2 at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria, as a key event of UNISCON'2006, a union of four international conferences addressing Information Systems from different perspectives:
- BIS 2006 (9th Int. Conf. on Business Information Systems),
- ISTA 2006 (6th Int. Conf. on Information Systems Technology and its Applications),
- NLDB 2006 (11th Int. Conference on Applications of Natural Language to Information Systems),
- ReTIS 2006  (8th Int. Conf. on Re-Technologies for Information Systems).

BIS 2006 invites researchers and practitioners to submit papers that contribute the results of research in Business Information Systems as well as papers that report on industrial IT projects. The Program Committee particularly encourages presentations of practical papers on industrial experience or on the validation of prototype implementations. Contributions are welcome in, but not limited to the following topics:
- Business Aspects of Ontologies: advantages and business value of ontologies, ontology development costs, ontologies for e-government and e-business, Semantic Web incarnations in the enterprises;
- Web Services-based Information Systems: grid Services, services creation, discovery, composition and enactment, service centric applications, web services composition and workflow planning,services integration;
- Business Information System Architectures: concepts, structural design principles, architectural patterns, Evaluation;
- Software Engineering for Business Applications: requirements specification, database development and applications, system design, implementation issues, software quality and testing;
- Information Retrieval and Filtering (IRaF) for Business Applications Special Session: ontologies and knowledge representation, query languages, e.g. media or domain specific; profiling and personalization; search strategies; document indexing, categorization and clustering; information extraction; (multi)media IRaF; multilingual and cross-lingual IRaF; adaptive filtering, collaborative filtering, Web filtering; IRaF from the Internet to information systems; portal technology; textual and multimedia Information Systems to mange information retrieved and filtered from the Web; evaluation of IraF;
- Knowledge-oriented eBusiness Technologies: knowledge management and knowledge engineering, knowledge-oriented customer relationship management, customer knowledge management, decision support systems, recommender systems, knowledge-based configuration, risk Management, trouble management;
- e-Government and Information Society: political and societal implications of e-Government; institutional change and IT-driven modernization of public governance structures;  legal interpretation and administrative decision making, standards for e-Governement systems;
- m-Government: technological, sociological and organisational enablers for m-government, e-government and m-government integration; best practices in the area of m-government: solutions, applications and recommendations, FP6 initiatives in the area of m-government;
- Technology Transfer: social impact of business technologies, product innovation, business incubation, economic impact of technology, cultural impact of technology, sustaining innovation (all papers will also be considered for publication in Comparative Technology Transfer and Society Journal);
- Business Aspects of e-Learning: individualization, improving learning, increasing access, learning on demand, University-Enterprise co-operation for e-Learning, cost reduction;
- Modeling Business Information Systems: methodologies, tools, experiences;



- Long papers:  max. 5000 words
